Welcome to Napier Elementary School

New Principal at Napier Enhanced Option School for 2011-2012

Dr. Ronald Powe, a 35+ year veteran educator and nearly 20-year member of Metro Nashville Public Schools, has been tapped as the new principal at Napier Enhanced Option Elementary School. Powe fills the vacancy left by an earlier resignation.

“I have spent many wonderful years working with Nashville students and their families,” said Dr. Powe, “and I am confident this next step will be equally enriching, for me and the community. This first stage of a child’s education is the time when we are able to build a foundation for lifelong learning. The children are excited and eager to learn and genuinely want to be at school. It’s our job to not only reinforce those feelings, but also to engage the parents so they can help their child(ren) succeed. We have to ensure that each child is trained and prepared to move on to the next level.”

An Alabama native, Powe began his career as a guidance counselor for the Clarke County Board of Education in Grove Hill, Alabama. Throughout his career, he has served as a high school special education teacher, a special education supervisor, assistant principal, and principal. He spent several years working at the Comprehensive Pupil Services Educational Center in Memphis, an alternative school for at-risk students. There he worked with students who had serious emotional and behavioral problems.

Throughout his career, Powe has received numerous honors including McMurray Middle School Teacher of the Year in 2000. He is known for commitment to service, both to students through extracurricular activities and the community through support to various organizations. Powe has served as a huddle coach for the Fellowship of

Christian Athletes, a sponsor of the Men of Distinction, and chairperson of McMurray Middle’s faculty advisory committee. In addition to teaching, Powe is also a full time pastor of Saint Luke CME Church in Nashville.

Powe holds B.S. and M.Ed. degrees from Alabama State University, a Master of Divinity degree from Memphis Theological Seminary, and a Doctorate degree from Vanderbilt University’s Peabody College.
